Unit 1: First Name
Session 1: My name is Yair. What does my name tell about me?

In this lesson we will examine what we can learn about a person from his name.
Like all lessons in 'Roots', this lesson is divided into 3 parts.
If you have already completed a part of the lesson, skip to the next part.
Personal Activity
1. You will look at some first names and make up short biographies about the people.
2. You will read their real biographies and compare them to the biographies you wrote.
3. You will enter the Information Center, learn more about stereotypes and pre-conceptions.
Group Activity
1. We will enter the Group Answer Page and read the biographies our group members wrote.
2. We will discuss the assumptions which we made.
Interactive Part
1. We will write the conclusions of our discussion for our friends in the partner group.
2. We will post a message in the Forum and introduce ourselves. We will tell about the origin of our name, our hobbies and what interests us.

  • Do you remember any time when you were surprised by a person's first name? Why?
  • How are stereotypes created? How are pre-conceptions created?

Interactive Part
