Unit 1: A Personal Journey to Myself
Second Session: Compare and Define Criteria of Group Identity


In this session you will become more acquainted with your group and get to know your partner group.
Like all lessons in 'Home and Community', this lesson is divided into 3 parts.
If you have already completed a part of the lesson, skip to the next part.
Personal Activity
1. We will observe our partner group's statistics and group message and compare them to our own.
2. We will compare our partner group’s characteristics to ours and answer the questions on the writing page.
Group Activity
1. We will conduct a discussion about the group's statistics and observe similar and different points.
2. We will visit the Information Center to broaden your knowledge about group identity.
3. Evaluate the differences and similarities between you and your partner group.
Interactive Activity
1. The group will write a short essay about its undertakings.
2. We will enter the forum and read our partner group's essay.


Personal Activity
In this section we will examine our partner group's statistics and group message and compare them to our own.

Think about the following questions and write the answers in the Writing Page:
  • Which criteria appear in both groups?
  • Which criteria appear only in your group?
  • Which criteria appear only in the partner group?
  • Did the partner group add criteria which were not on the list? If yes, which?
  • Why do you think there are common criteria in both lists?
  • What can you learn about the partner group from the criteria which appear only in their list?
  • What can you learn about your group from the criteria which appear only in your list?

Group Activity
A. We will conduct a discussion about the group's statistics (ours and our partner group's).

Conduct a discussion asking the following questions:


  • What did you discover about the members of your partner group from the statistics they sent you?
  • Did your partner group's statistics surprise you?
  • What else would you like to know about your partner group?

B. Group Information Tool

You examined your group identity criteria and those of the partner group. Now you will look at general information (country of birth, hobbies, etc.)

This tool presents a statistical break-down of the group's information (the percentage of participants that were born in Israel, the percentage of participants whose families have 5 members, etc).

C. Discussion about Group Information

Conduct a discussion about your group information and relate to the following points:

  • What surprised you? Why?
  • Where can you find similarities between the group members?
  • Where can you find differences?
  • What is the reason for the similarities? What is the reason for the differences?
  • How would you describe your group?


Interactive Activity
A. Your Group Description

Now you are familiar with the members of your group,write a brief group essay about the group.
The group manager will send the essay to your partner group.

Please NOTE: Only the group administrator (in most cases the teacher) can enter this section.
The group identity criteria are automatically sent to the partner group.

ADMINISTRATOR: Log in before entering the group description.
