"A tree may be alone in the field, a man may be alone in the world, but no Jew is alone on his holy days."

Abba Kovner

This lesson addresses the Diaspora Jewish Community: how it developed and survived through the long period of Exile (Galut).

In this lesson:

  • We will Define the term, “Jewish community” and explain what it provided for its members.
  • We will explore the unique needs of Jews everywhere: in relation to the observance of mitzvot, in relation to their existence, and explore how the Jewish community met these needs.
  • We will understand how the Jewish community survived in the Diaspora, despite very difficult conditions.
