Session 3: Learning more about your home and community


In this lesson you will learn more about your town and your community. 
Like all lessons in 'Home and Community', this lesson is divided into 3 parts. 

If you have already completed a part of the lesson, skip to the next part.. 
Personal Activity
1. Read the questions, which the members of your partner group sent to you.
2. What do these questions tell you about them?
3. Answer the questions in the Forum.
Group Activity
1. Present the mementos and stories you brought to your group.
2. What do they tell you about them?
3. Create an image of the town and community that these items paint.
Interactive Part
1. Choose some unique mementos and stories and write about them to your partner group.


Personal Activity
A. Questions and Answers

Enter the Forum and read the questions the members of your partner group sent to you and answer them. When you read the questions consider the following:
  • Are there surprising questions?
  • What do the members of your partner group want to know about you?
  • What did you learn about the members of your partner group when you read the questions?

A. Discussion about the questions your partner group asked

Discuss the questions your partner group asked with your group members.

Consider the following:
  • What interested your partner group in the stories you sent them?
  • Which additional details did they want to know?
B. Discussion about the mementos and stories you brought

Present the mementos and stories you brought to your classmates and discuss the following:
  • Were there mementos and stories unknown to you?
  • Were there duplicates of mementos and stories?
  • What can you learn about your town from them?
  • What can you learn about your community from them?

Choose some mementos and stories to present to your partner group and think of how to present them.


Interactive Part
Photograph or scan the mementos and stories you brought, add a short description and post it in the forum.
